We are the noble few who have devoted our lives to guarding the heart of Fortunata — at all costs.

A passionate volunteer militia with a self-assigned mission to protect Fortunata. They are garrisoned at the Stone Tower in the Great Pass—the only practical invasion route for a large army into Fortunata. Usually invasion means that somebody has united the Hussars and they are carrying out a massive raid for loot and slaves. Most states of Fortunata are bound by custom to provide a yearly donation. However, logistics being what they are, food and basic supplies come from the dependent agricultural communities around the Tower.

The Stone Guard has a strict moral code regarding the natural world of Fortunata. They revere wild, untamed nature, and see it as their duty to guard it against the corruptive force of civilization. Hence, they live at peace with the creatures of the Gryphon Mountains. The Gryphons remain aloof and regard the Stone Guard (as all humans) with lofty indifference, but the Bruinars are their sworn allies and friends. Most Stone Guard volunteers come from villages in the mountains with a culture heavily influenced by Bruinar rituals and values; this influence has carried over into the Stone Guard itself, making bear-images a common motif in Stone Guard regalia.

Typical Adventures: hunting with Bruinars; diplomacy visits with the Gryphons; fighting off invading forces through guerilla tactics
