We must restore the Kingdom of the Broken Heart, bringing all of Fortunata back under its (our) control.

The Kallendai prize order above all else. They are always sending out monks and mystics from their temples in the Dragon Mountains, with the ostensible goal of establishing “order”. Practically, their primary goal is unclear; I have devoted much time to researching this, but all I can discern is that they seem to desire total supremacy over every other source of power — religion, magic, politics, military . . . everything.

The Red Eyes — a group of elite assassins — are how they work towards the goal. Entrance is only achievable after training for 18 years, then undertaking a dangerous journey through the Scar, which culminates in a single-combat battle to the death. They are truly lethal — especially since the Kallendai have begun meddling with magics dark and ancient, giving them the ability to disappear or reappear at will.

Even more concerning, the Red Eyes have recently developed a horrible habit of coming back as undead after being killed. (Considering their obsession with order, this drive to complete their duty even after death makes sense . . . terrible sense. Still, I suspect the true cause is the Kallendai’s increasingly reckless experimentation.) The process takes twenty-four hours, and the only way to stop it is by burning the bodies completely. If there is any unburned bit of the body left, the assassin WILL return as undead after twenty-four hours.

(Note: Red Eyes communicate with each other by means of distinctive whistles.)

Typical Adventures: searching the desert for remnants of the lost kingdom and its secrets; saving mystics from the Dark Ring (and recruiting them to the Kallendai cause); infiltrating and influencing the Four Powers
